In Celebration of World Metrology Day, SASO Organizes Several Events

SASO has organized in collaboration with the Saudi Quality Council in the western province several events in celebration of "World Metrology Day" under the theme "Measurements in Dynamic World".

The events started Wednesday 18th May 2016 with an introductory seminar at SASO's headquarters in Riyadh, with the attendance of Dr. Martin J. Milton, Director of BIPM. Another specialized seminar was held at Jeddah Hilton, Amwaj Hall on Thursday 19th of May 2016.

During these events, measurement and calibration systems and national, regional and international metrology systems were reviewed. Also, the current role of SASO's laboratories and their future vision were addressed. In addition, the events discussed feasibility, the future outlook of electrical appliances' tests, the nature of time measurements and other topics related to the presence and participation of experts and specialists representing many sectors.

It is worth noting that the 20th of May represents the day on which the Metre Convention was signed in 1875. This convention has set the main rules of modern metrology, thus significantly contributing to the unifying of measurement standards around the world. This resulted in the cancellation of many measurement units that were randomly used all over the globe and that caused a lot of confusion and obstacles in commercial and industrial trades between all countries.
