SASO organized on Tuesday, Sha'ban 24th, 1437 AH, corresponding to May 31st, 2016, a workshop for a number of the Shura Council members on "Social Responsibility and ISO 26000". The workshop was held during the visit of the Shura Council members to SASO's main headquarters in Riyadh. The visit aimed to take a look at SASO's efforts in the field of approving a Saudi standard specification on social responsibility in the Kingdom.

SASO's Governor, Dr. Sa'ad bin Othman Al-Kasabi, expressed his thanks to the Shura Council members. He confirmed that their interest in participating in the workshop clearly reflects the interest in social responsibility that all the society members and institutions in this giving country should carry out. He pointed out that the efficient and effective role of social responsibility enhances the sustainable development of any country or economic entity. He also indicated that some Saudi companies do not operate in a socially responsible way.

Further, SASO's Governor mentioned that since the formation of the international work team for the international standard specification ISO 26000,  SASO has sought to participate in its membership and comment on that important standard. SASO has also participated in the GCC work team under GSO and formed a national committee equivalent to the international social responsibility committee. In addition, SASO has organized a series of awareness discussions to disseminate awareness of international standard specification of social responsibility and its related issues.

Dr. Al-Kasabi indicated that SASO, in partnership with many institutions concerned with social responsibility and its applications, seeks to benefit from the international standard specification for social responsibility in preparing a Saudi standard specification that follows our religious, cultural and social principles. He hoped that preparing such a standard would be done soon.

On the other hand, the Shura Council members listened to a detailed explanation of all aspects and issues related to the international standard specification of social responsibility. Then they paid a visit to SASO's laboratories which include several qualitative laboratories specialized in energy efficiency, sanitary appliances, construction and building products, electrical and electronic devices and others, as well as the National Measurement and Calibration Center (NMCC).

For their part, the Shura Council members praised the excellent efforts of SASO and its leading national role in activating social responsibility mechanisms. They also valued SASO's efforts in preparing and updating Saudi standard specifications as well as its efforts in relation to testing, quality control and calibration laboratories in a way that ensures the safety of consumers and enhances the position of Saudi economy.
