SASO Participates in ISO Annual Meeting in China with 120 Countries

    SASO participated in ISO annual meeting held recently in China with 500 participants from 120 countries and 15 regional and international organizations. The meeting aimed at discussing future trends of standardization and their impact on international trade and economy and supporting ways of cooperation among countries in the field of standardization. SASO delegation was headed by His Excellency Dr. Sa'ad bin Othman Al-Kasabi, SASO Governor.

    SASO Governor met ISO President Dr. Zhang Xiaogang, and they discussed several issues of common interest relating to standardization field. The meeting also addressed the importance of continuous and mutual coordination among member states in order to unify standard specifications to serve national economies and international investments.

   For his part, Dr. Sa'ad Al-Kasabi stressed the necessity of such meetings to unify international visions in order to face challenges of standardization field. Unifying the visions aims at finding practical solutions for such obstacles in order to work together to foster national economies and boost market competitiveness.

    His Excellency expressed that SASO participates in a number of policy development committees related to ISO as Member Body, including Committee on Conformity Assessment (CASCO), Committee on Developing Country Matters (DEVCO), Committee on Consumer Policy (COPOLCO) and Committee on Reference Materials (REMCO). 

   Furthermore, SASO participates, as Member Body,  in 53 international technical committees related to ISO. It also participates, as correspondent member, in 148 technical committees and subcommittees.  In addition, it constantly encourages and supports the participation of partners from both  government and private bodies in international standardization work, through participation in the membership of main and sub international technical committees. 

  Meetings of the General Assembly represent the highest authority in the Organization. Its meetings are held once a year with the presence of ISO members,  in order to discuss issues of mutual concern and keep abreast of developments in different fields of standardization.
