Mass Measurements

The National Measurement and Calibration Center maintains the national kilogram, which is copy No. 93 of the International Kilogram (IPK) made from an alloy of Platinum (90%) and Iridium (10%) with special specifications. Measurements of mass and related quantities have great importance in many of our daily life needs. These measurements are carried out by industry, military, health and civil sectors in​​ various applications with different levels of precision and accuracy. In the department of Mass Measurements, attention was paid to covering the basic needs of industrial and service sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Therefore, it has been structured into 9 specialized laboratories:

It is one of the laboratories of NMCC, and it maintains the national kilogram. The laboratory calibrates standard masses and electronic balances as well as bridge balances, and has the following Calibration and Measurement Capabilities.

It is one of the laboratories of the Mass Measurement Department at the NMCC. The laboratory is responsible for establishing and maintaining the national measurement standards for measuring the density of solids and liquids. The laboratory provides the service of measuring density of solid objects in the range (1g-50kg) and the density of reference liquids. It also provides the calibration service of hydrometers in the range (600 –2000) kg/m3. The laboratory has the following Calibration and measuring capabilities.​

The Force Measurement Laboratory at NMCC is concerned with the calibration of Load cells and the material testing machines according to the international ISO standards. The aim is to disseminate traceability of the measurement results to the SI units. Accurate force measurements are required in many civil and military applications. Force Material testing machine​

It is one of the laboratories of the Mass Measurements Department at NMCC. It is responsible for establishing and maintaining the national measurement standards for measuring the volume (L). It is one of the laboratories of the Mass Measurements Department at NMCC. it is responsible for establishing and maintaining the national measurement standards of pressure. The laboratory calibrates high-precision pressure gauges and pressure balance devices. It can calibrate pressure gauges using hydraulic pressure in the range (5-500 MPa) and calibrate digital, analog and barometric devices using the pneumatic pressure up to (100) MPa. The laboratory can also measure negative pressure by vacuum till (-95) kPa. It has the following calibration and measurement capabilities: ​
