Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) initiatives in facing the effects of COVID-19

      In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality (SASO) as the KSA’s national standards body, has been actively working on different fields to support the community and its stakeholders to overcome the resulted consequences and challenges of this pandemic. SASO’s initiatives in this regard are as follows:

      ​First: SASO has offered free and easy access to more than 30 relevant standards, such as (business continuity management, risk management, and volunteer management in organizations). These standards are desperately needed to provide SASO’s stakeholders with the best practice information to help during this challenging situation.

      ​Second: SASO has approved a remote assessment activity as a temporary measure to replace on-site reassessments for business requiring the Saudi Quality Mark for their products. Besides, the extension of the validity period of the previously issued conformity certificates and the test reports of the registered products in SABER system to support trade and to facilitate the movement of goods into the Saudi market. SASO informed the industrial and commercial establishments that they can benefit from these initiatives by using SABER electronic platform and request the service via the link (https://saber.sa) or by visiting SASO’s website (https://www.saso.gov.sa/en​).

      Third: the training center at SASO is offering some free advisory services and several online awareness lectures on relevant ISO standards that can help with the battle against COVID-19. Examples of these online lectures are: Managing volunteering in institutions (SASO 2923), Business Continuity Management System (ISO 22301), Occupational Health and Safety (ISO 45001), Risk management (ISO 31000), and Remote auditing of quality management systems during the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 15 thousand attendees participated in these lectures.

      Fourth: SASO has also increased its awareness activities on social media platforms towards society in various essential topics. The total number of followers to various SASO’s social media accounts exceeds 640,947 followers.
