SASO Considers Activating its Role in Corresponding International Technical Committees through a Workshop
SASO has organized a workshop, entitled "Activating SASO's Role in Corresponding International Technical Committees", in the framework of its efforts to strengthen the regional and international role of the Kingdom in the field of standardization and standard specifications.
In a speech delivered on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of SASO, Eng. Abdullah bin Awadh Al-Qahtani, Deputy Governor of SASO, said that SASO aims at keeping pace with global developments and activating its role in corresponding international technical committees, in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and National Transformation Program (NTP), with the goal to strengthen the Kingdom's position and promote SASO's vision of achieving regional leadership and scientific reference in areas of standardization.
"Technical committees of national standardization bodies are one of the most important pillars in supporting the role and mission of these bodies. SASO relies heavily on these committees in leading the standardization sector to regional and international status, that we look forward to achieve and which is proper to the status and name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," he added. To achieve this goal, SASO is exerting its best efforts to strengthen and clarify such aspect, through the establishment of clear mechanisms and frameworks that transform work into an accurate institutional framework which is capable of achieving tangible progress rates, he stressed.
Eng. Al-Qahtani pointed out that standard specifications and the work of technical teams, representing a means for enabling and enhancing national economies and supporting competitiveness, should be adapted to international practices and should stand out in regional and international forums. He clarified that this can only be achieved through joint efforts, being aware of various national and international experiences, and examining all possible opportunities to enhance SASO's participation in technical committees of various regional and international standardization organizations.
"This workshop completes, and is based upon, previous activities organized by SASO to study ways and mechanisms of enhancing its presence in various standardization organizations. Formerly, SASO has organized an introductory workshop on international standards, their methods of preparation and voting mechanism, in the presence of heads of different departments in the General Administration of Standards and secretaries of technical teams," he continued.
