To support importers and protect consumers from counterfeit products,
SASO Holds workshops to introduce the Saber electronic service.

SASO, in cooperation with its strategic partner Thiqah Business Services, held a number of workshops to introduce Electronic Registration System for Conformity Certificates "Sabir". The workshops were held in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province with the participation of more than 250 investors and owners of local factories aiming to define Sabir electronic service. The workshops reviewed mechanism of conformity procedures and their role in activating the Saudi program initiative for product safety. SASO's experts explained registration mechanism and how to issue certificates. Moreover, the workshops reviewed how to register products and issue their consignment certificates.

SASO explained that "Sabir" system is an electronic service used to issue certificates of conformity for products conforming to Saudi standards and specifications, in order to facilitate importation of goods and limit non-conforming products. SASO noted that "Sabir" service connects suppliers and traders with legal representatives of approved conformity authorities to issue certificates of conformity for products that will be sold in the Saudi market, whether they are imported or locally manufactured.

SASO listed the advantages of using "Sabir", as it has the ability to issue conformity certificates automatically, speed up their issuance process and reduce the time required for the importation of products, including customs inspection. This system will also contribute to the reduction of fraud and manipulation of conformity certificates, in order to protect the consumer from non-conforming products and reduce commercial fraud.

Furthermore, SASO noted that conformity certificates are important in ensuring the compliance of products with Saudi standards and protecting suppliers from fraud which they may be subjected to when importing products. In addition, SASO aims, through "Sabir" system, to limit fraudulent and non-conforming products in the Saudi market.

It is worth mentioning that SASO during the coming period intends to hold additional workshops for beneficiaries to raise awareness about Sabir's electronic service in preparation for its launch in the coming period.
